Terms of Service

Last updated: 25 August 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at howyou.lol and everything on it (the "Service"). By using the Service — whether you are just visiting the wall or you sign in and claim a square — you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the Service.

The Service is operated by an individual independent developer ("the operator", "we", "us"), not by an incorporated company. The operator can be reached at contact@longbook.app.

2. What the Service is

howyou.lol is a public wall of 100 squares. Each square belongs to one signed-in user and holds:

When a visitor clicks a square, the Service plays that square's laugh and opens that square's project URL in a new browser tab. The Service also keeps a count of how many times each square's laugh has been played.

The Service is currently provided free of charge. It does not carry advertising, run analytics or tracking pixels, sell data to third parties, or operate a newsletter.

3. Eligibility and signing in

4. One square per account, and the 100-square limit

The wall holds exactly 100 squares. Each X account may claim one square. When all 100 squares are claimed, no further squares are available unless an existing square is deleted or removed. Claiming, or attempting to claim, more than one square — including through additional, automated, or borrowed X accounts — is not permitted, and any square claimed that way may be removed.

Claiming a square does not transfer ownership of it and does not create a reservation, a property right, or any guarantee that the square will remain available to you.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the laugh recording, the icon image, and the other details you submit ("your content"). By submitting content you confirm that:

By submitting content, you grant the operator permission to store it and to display and play it publicly on howyou.lol for as long as your square exists. This permission exists only so that the Service can function, and it ends when your square and its stored files are deleted.

When you sign in, the Service may look up the website listed on your public X profile in order to help fill in your project URL. What is stored, and how, is described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the Service to:

7. Links are supplied by users

Every project name, icon, and URL on the wall is supplied by the user who claimed that square. The operator does not review, verify, endorse, or accept responsibility for any linked site, its contents, or anything that happens there, and has no control over those sites. Following a link takes you off howyou.lol and onto a site governed by its own terms and its own privacy practices. Visit linked sites at your own risk.

8. Removal, takedown, and deleting your square

Deleting your own square

You can delete your square at any time. Deleting it removes your row from the database together with the stored laugh audio and any uploaded icon.

Reporting a problem

If something on the wall impersonates you, uses your work without permission, links somewhere harmful, or otherwise breaks these Terms, write to contact@longbook.app. A person reads that address and reviews each request; there is no automated takedown system.

Removal by the operator

The operator may remove a square, refuse a claim, or block an account, with or without prior notice, where the square breaks these Terms, where a credible complaint is received, or where removal is needed to protect visitors or the Service. Where it is practical to do so, the operator will explain the reason.

9. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains what the Service stores, where it is stored, and how to have it deleted. It forms part of your agreement with the operator and is not repeated here.

10. Availability and changes to the Service

The Service is a small project run by one person on third-party infrastructure. It may be unavailable, slow, or interrupted at any time. The operator may change how the Service works, add or remove features, or discontinue the Service entirely, at any time. Where it is practical, notice of a shutdown will be given in advance, but this cannot be promised.

Keep your own copy of anything you would not want to lose. The Service is not a backup or an archive of your recording or your icon.

11. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. The operator does not warrant that the Service will be secure or available, that any content on it is accurate, or that any destination linked from it is safe or lawful.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, business, reputation, or goodwill, arising out of or connected with your use of the Service or any site linked from it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator's total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the total amount you have paid to use the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose — which, while the Service is free of charge, is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply only so far as the law allows, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Your responsibility for your square

You are responsible for your content and for the destination you link to. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to cover the operator's losses, costs, and reasonable legal expenses arising from a third-party claim caused by your content, your linked destination, or your breach of these Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Service.

15. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The current version is always on this page, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Where a change is material, the operator will note it on the site if practical. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, delete your square and stop using the Service.

16. General

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and the operator regarding the Service. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms to anyone else.

17. Contact

Questions about these Terms, takedown requests, and anything else about the Service: contact@longbook.app.
